The Blood of Dawnwalker Adds a 60fps Mode on Consoles After Player Backlash

Rebel Wolves confirmed The Blood of Dawnwalker will add a 60fps Performance Mode on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X through its September 3 launch patch.

The Blood of Dawnwalker will hit 60fps on consoles after all. Developer Rebel Wolves announced Monday that the dark fantasy RPG gets a Performance Mode targeting 60fps on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X on day one, delivered through the launch patch when the game ships September 3.

The reversal comes three days after the studio’s console gameplay reveal landed badly. Friday’s footage showed only two graphics modes, Quality at 30fps and Balanced at 40fps, both at dynamic 4K, with no 60fps option on any console. Criticism spread quickly across social media, with some players cancelling pre-orders over the frame-rate caps.

Rebel Wolves addressed that reaction directly in its announcement. “Performance Mode was already in the works, but it was still being tested. We simply weren’t ready to promise it yet,” the studio wrote. “We heard your feedback. It was clear how much this mattered to many of you, so we focused on finishing the next round of tests. Those results gave us the confidence we needed to confirm Performance Mode for Day 1.”

The Full Mode Lineup at Launch

Once the launch patch is applied, PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X players choose between three modes: Performance targeting 60fps, Balanced targeting 40fps, and Quality targeting 30fps. The PS5 Pro adds enhanced visual quality across all three. Xbox Series S keeps a single mode targeting 30fps. Push Square also noticed the original console footage video has since been set to private on YouTube, presumably awaiting a reupload that includes the new mode.

The episode is a notable pre-launch save for a studio under pressure to nail its debut. Rebel Wolves was founded by veterans of CD Projekt Red, including game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who led The Witcher 3’s development, and publisher Bandai Namco has positioned The Blood of Dawnwalker as one of the fall’s bigger original RPGs. It arrives on PC through Steam and GOG alongside PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 3, joining a crowded month that already includes the Code Vein II: Mask of Idris expansion on September 9 and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy headlining Game Pass Wave 2.

Few studios reverse a performance decision before launch, and fewer do it within three days. Rebel Wolves turned its loudest criticism into a concrete feature, and September 3 will show whether the extra testing holds up on base hardware.
