Faraday Blues is a new surreal science-fiction adventure from Serenity Forge that uses cards to let players rewrite a family’s tragedies. Revealed during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast, the game follows Lina, a daughter searching for parents who do not know she exists. It is planned for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC and Xbox Cloud in 2027.
The announcement describes Faraday Blues as three connected visual novels, each set in a different era with its own visual identity and narrative style. Serenity Forge’s press release also confirms planned releases for PlayStation and PC. The studio says choices can lead to 64 reality-altering endings, with decisions made in one period carrying into the next. Our Xbox restructuring feature provides separate background on the platform’s recent changes, but this announcement is about a new game rather than corporate strategy.
Cards that represent people and memories
Lina wakes in an unfamiliar place and finds an old computer beside a strange tabletop. Two cards show the faces of her parents, although neither parent knows she exists and both lives are already marked by tragedy. Her answer is to reset the board and try again, changing the people and circumstances that shape key events.
The cards are not a conventional combat deck. Serenity Forge describes a 52-card system containing characters, memories, items and pieces of the Faraday family’s history. Players place those cards into conversations, locations and major events before entering the timeline to see what follows. The point is to alter relationships and decisions, not to assemble a stronger hand for a traditional battle.
A character placed outside a bedroom instead of inside it may change what happens next. Sending someone into a smaller interaction can also leave them unavailable when a major event occurs. The game’s central tension comes from those trade-offs: saving one relationship can leave another person alone, and an apparent solution can create a different tragedy later.
That structure gives Faraday Blues a clear place in the kind of unusual independent projects covered in our indie games guide. It also connects with the wider shift toward games that make player decisions part of the story’s underlying system rather than a short branch at the end of a chapter.
Three eras, one accumulating story
Each of the game’s three visual novels presents a different version of the Faraday family’s apartment and its surrounding reality. They are separate periods, but not separate campaigns. Relationships, memories, items and character states can move forward, so the consequences of an early choice may only become clear after the story has changed shape.
The Xbox Wire announcement says some endings will require players to understand the people involved before they can manipulate the timeline in more effective ways. It also notes that character changes can include movement toward Order or Entropy, changes of suit and transformations that affect later possibilities. These systems are presented as part of the mystery, with Serenity Forge keeping some details undisclosed for now.
Serenity Forge is developing the game with co-creator and lead artist Satchely, narrative director Kevin Ye and composer Kris Wilson. Nichole Goodnight is also part of the voice cast. The studio says the project grew from the desire to revisit moments that cannot be changed and explore what that temptation would do to the future.
Faraday Blues is scheduled for 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud, PlayStation and PC. A wishlist is available now, but Serenity Forge has not announced a specific launch date.
