Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, a full remake of the 2013 pirate adventure, launches today on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Ubisoft confirmed the release on the official game page, marking one of the publisher's most ambitious remake projects in recent years.

The game is priced at $59.99 on Steam (EUR 59.99 in Europe) and arrives on PC through Steam, the Ubisoft Store, and the Epic Games Store. A range of DLC items are available at launch, including a Map Pack ($4.99) and several character and naval packs ($9.99 each). The title carries a Steam Deck Verified badge, meaning it runs well on Valve's handheld out of the box.
Ubisoft describes Resynced as a faithfully enhanced remake rebuilt from the ground up on the latest version of the Anvil Engine. Development was led by Ubisoft Singapore, with support from more than ten additional Ubisoft studios including Barcelona, Bordeaux, Belgrade, Chengdu, India, Kyiv, Montpellier, Philippines, Quebec, and Shanghai. This distributed development effort shows the scale of recreating a beloved open world for modern hardware.
The game returns players to the story of Edward Kenway, a privateer turned pirate during the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean. The open world spans locations including Havana, Nassau, and Kingston, offering naval combat, stealth missions, island exploration, and ship boarding. The original 2013 release became one of the best-selling entries in the Assassin's Creed series and is widely credited with popularising naval combat in the franchise.
Eurogamer's review awarded the remake three stars out of five, noting that the game carries "imprints of that original game" alongside "roughly-inserted new bits." The review describes an experience where the technical upgrades sometimes struggle against the framework of a 13-year-old game, but acknowledges clear affection from the development team for the source material.
For returning players, the remake brings a substantial visual overhaul. Updated lighting systems, higher-resolution textures, improved character models, and support for higher frame rates take advantage of current-generation hardware. The PS5 Pro version includes dedicated enhancements showcased in an official immersion trailer released ahead of launch. On the audio side, the game features remastered sound design and a newly recorded sea shanty medley performed by The Longest Johns, which was released as a promotional video in late June.
The launch lineup of DLC includes four themed collections: Hellfire, Sea Serpent, Master Assassin, and Dragon Storm. Each pack offers cosmetic items, weapons, and ship customizations in both character and naval variants. A separate Map Pack provides additional navigation tools for the open world. All DLC is available individually on each platform's storefront on day one.
The release of Black Flag Resynced arrives at a time when Ubisoft has been revisiting several of its legacy titles. The publisher has invested heavily in bringing its back catalogue to modern platforms, though Resynced stands apart as a full engine-level rebuild rather than a simple resolution bump. The remake also launches alongside the Animus Hub, Ubisoft's new cross-game companion platform that connects Assassin's Creed titles.
Players switching from the original will find the core structure intact: the same ship upgrades, fort captures, and treasure hunts that defined the 2013 experience remain. What has changed is the presentation layer, with modern rendering techniques bringing the Caribbean to life in ways the Xbox 360 and PS3 hardware could not achieve. The question for returning players is whether a new coat of paint on a decade-old gameplay loop feels fresh enough to justify another voyage.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A Nintendo Switch 2 version has not been announced.
