Bandai Namco has announced that Code Vein II‘s first expansion, Mask of Idris, will launch on September 9, 2026. The post-game DLC adds a separate story set in the Forsaken World, a realm formed from timelines and worlds damaged by historical changes.

The expansion will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A PlayStation Blog breakdown confirms that the new chapter brings two partners, new weapons and Formae, and new bosses. A free Version 2.0 update will launch alongside it with additional features for every player.

A post-game story built around broken timelines

Code Vein II already treats time as part of its action RPG structure, with players moving through past and present versions of its world. Mask of Idris pushes that idea into a new setting. The expansion centers on Temporal Rifts, alternate spaces that preserve the traces of histories changed by the hero Idris.

One of those rifts did not disappear as expected. It continued to grow until it became the Forsaken World, a place shaped by the emotions and passions left behind by worlds that no longer exist. At the center is the Spindle of Pathos, a massive swirling force that pulls those feelings together across time and space. Its influence is now spreading toward the real world, giving the expansion a threat that is more than another isolated dungeon.

There is a clear endgame requirement for entering this story. Bandai Namco says players must reach the Luna Fraterna ending in the main campaign and complete the sub-mission Valentin’s Request. That places Mask of Idris firmly after the main narrative rather than alongside its early chapters, so players who want to avoid spoilers should finish the required story content first.

The fractured setting also gives the DLC room to explore the kind of character-driven worldbuilding that makes a large action RPG work. Our feature on Elden Ring’s approach to open-world design looks at how unusual spaces can turn exploration into storytelling. The Forsaken World appears to use a different structure, but its premise similarly makes the environment part of the mystery instead of treating it as a backdrop. That same distinction matters in our coverage of Black Myth: Zhong Kui’s first gameplay footage, where an early look at an action RPG is kept separate from promises about its final release.

Two partners and new ways to fight

Liv Voda is the expansion’s main new ally. She is the original guardian of the Temporal Rift and the half-sister of Valentin Voda, but she abandoned her responsibilities before returning to the frontier. Her combat style is built around aggressive melee attacks and a halberd. Her Linkage Trait makes enemies more vulnerable to staggering from weapon attacks, while the Mad Blood Dance Formae raises her attack power and can extend its effect when attacks connect.

Lou MagMell is a familiar name with a different history. The Lou encountered in the Forsaken World is not the same Revenant girl from the main story. She entered this alternate realm after her own tragedy, and the expansion gradually reveals what happened to her. That distinction fits the DLC’s larger focus on branching histories, where familiar identities can exist on a different path.

The new combat tools are designed to support the expansion’s tougher encounters. Grave Knocker is a martial arts Formae that works with every weapon type. It launches an aerial kick and creates a shockwave on impact, followed by a second wave that can stagger enemies around the landing point. Sword of Karma lets Idris summon a greatsword infused with the flames of Pathos, adding a series of heavy strikes and longer combo options before sending a final wave of fire forward.

Bandai Namco has not yet detailed every part of the free Version 2.0 update, but it says the patch will add more ways to explore the post-game world with companions. That update will arrive at the same time as the paid expansion, giving every Code Vein II player new features even if they do not buy Mask of Idris.

Code Vein II: Mask of Idris launches September 9 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. With its story locked behind the main campaign, two new allies, and a setting built from discarded timelines, it is shaping up as a substantial next step for players who have already reached the end of the Revenant Hunter’s journey.
