Until Dawn 2 will launch on PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027, with pre-orders opening September 10. Firesprite confirmed the date in its official PlayStation Blog announcement, which also details the returning Dr. Hill, a new cast of ghost-hunting creators, and the Digital Deluxe Edition.
The sequel follows Dead True, a team of fake ghost-hunting YouTubers who travel from Blackwood Sanitorium to Akishima Island. Their investigation starts with an episode about the events of the original game, then expands into a new supernatural mystery after a survivor warns them about the island’s history. The date makes Until Dawn 2 one of the more concrete PS5 horror releases shown in the State of Play double bill covered in our show roundup.
Dead True takes the investigation to Akishima Island
Firesprite describes Dead True as a group of eight creators, with Owen, Mina, Nate, Reagan, Izzy, Luke, Josie, and Cameron at the center of the story. Izzy, played by Sarah Catherine Hook, is the team’s new intern. While filming at Blackwood Sanitorium, she uncovers something that changes the direction of the episode and puts the group’s plans in danger.
The crew later encounters Yoona, played by Gia Kim, at HorrorCon in Sydney. She survived a supernatural attack and carries a dark necrotic scar. Her warning sends Dead True toward a remote South Pacific island that has been abandoned since a luxury resort mysteriously shut down in the 1970s. The island’s secrets are described as centuries old, giving the sequel a setting that moves beyond the original mountain lodge without losing its focus on hostile choices and consequences.
Owen, played by Dacre Montgomery, gets one of the trailer’s clearest decision points. He must decide whether to follow a signal to help his missing friend Nate or cross a damaged bridge to investigate a bar that appears strangely lively. Firesprite frames the choice as more than a simple route split: leaving Nate could make him vulnerable, but the detour might reveal clues that change what the group understands about the island.
Mina faces a nastier demand. Her network wants a ritual sacrifice performed live on camera, with the team’s chicken companion placed at the center of the decision. The player can let the chicken go or risk using a human sacrifice instead. That choice reflects the sequel’s larger premise, where interactions and decisions can reshape relationships and determine who survives.
Pre-orders include Dr. Hill and neon costumes
Pre-orders for the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions open September 10. Both editions include access to exclusive Dr. Hill-themed content, including the classic Until Dawn outfit, an Akishima Island holiday outfit, and Dr. Hill collector’s bobbleheads to find in the game. Peter Stormare is returning as Dr. Hill, connecting the sequel’s new cast to the unsettling voice that helped define the first game’s psychological framing.
The Digital Deluxe Edition adds a Y2K Neon Vibes Pack for all eight Dead True members. It also includes Diorama of Death, a collection of vignettes that lets players revisit different angles on the game’s deaths. The announcement does not give a price for either edition, so the September 10 pre-order opening is the next point at which those details may become clearer.
Firesprite is working with AdHoc Studio, the team behind Dispatch, on the story. The partnership is aimed at layered characters, sharp dialogue, difficult relationships, and consequences that carry through each playthrough. That choice-driven structure gives Until Dawn 2 a clear connection to the original while giving the new setting room to establish its own mythology.
With a January 28 date, a named cast, and pre-order bonuses already set, Until Dawn 2 is further along than several of the other horror reveals in the current PS5 calendar.
