CD Projekt Red announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered on August 25, 2026, during gamescom Opening Night Live. The upgrade arrives as a free download on September 29, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and a native Nintendo Switch 2 version launches the same day (CD Projekt RED official news, August 25, 2026).
The remaster is free for existing owners on qualifying platforms and reworks the 2015 role-playing game with upgraded visuals, enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, new witcher signs effects, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviors, a skill tree revamp, transmogrification, an expanded photo mode, and new finishers. CD Projekt Red is co-developing the remaster with Yigsoft, a team with prior experience on The Witcher 3. The move follows a pattern we saw when 1000xRESIST shipped a free Switch 2 Edition, with publishers using upgraded builds to pull existing libraries onto Nintendo’s new hardware.
As a surprise for players, every current owner of The Witcher 3 now gains access to the two acclaimed story expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, at no extra cost. Gamescom host Geoff Keighley revealed the giveaway on stage, letting players who never bought the expansions try them ahead of the September remaster. For newcomers, both expansions are included with the remastered purchase.
Songs of the Past extends the saga into 2027
Alongside the remaster, CD Projekt Red shared a first look at Songs of the Past, a paid expansion scheduled for 2027. The teaser introduces Letten, an idyllic land of rural tradition and folklore where a dark secret lurks beneath the surface, and Geralt must overcome new foes tied to its long-dormant evil. Fool’s Theory, a studio led by Witcher 3 veterans, is co-developing the expansion, which is available to wishlist now on select platforms.
The remaster also reaches Battle.net through a new partnership with Blizzard Entertainment, bringing both The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered and Songs of the Past to the platform on September 29. Players who buy the expansion on Battle.net unlock a Geralt-inspired skin in Diablo 4, with further details promised when CD Projekt Red attends BlizzCon in September.
The announcement lands as CD Projekt Red pushes the franchise forward on multiple fronts. The studio has confirmed The Witcher 4 targets a 2028 release window, so the remaster and Songs of the Past give current players a refreshed way to revisit Geralt’s story while the next mainline entry is still years out.
