Grand Theft Auto 6 generated roughly $260 million in digital pre-orders during the last week of June, according to data from market research firm Newzoo. The figure represents global spending across all major platforms, with $180 million coming from the US and five key European markets: the UK, France, Spain, Germany, and Italy.
Our earlier GTA 6 preorder guide explains the consumer side of the launch.
Newzoo forecasts that sales of Rockstar's highly anticipated title could reach $3.3 billion to $5.2 billion by the end of its launch week in November. The data firm suggests GTA 6 will follow a typical sequel pre-order curve, with pre-orders representing 5.8% of cumulative total sales.
"Contrary to social media reports, GTA 6 has not done a billion dollars in pre-orders 21 weeks out," said Newzoo management consultant Ronan Patrick. "This is absurd. Given how pre-order curves look, nothing ever has and nothing ever will in the near future."
Patrick added that the $180 million in digital pre-order spend across the US and the five largest European markets translates to a global opening week of roughly $260 million, with most of the ramp still ahead. Even at the most conservative reading, where GTA 6 front-loads harder than any major title in Newzoo's dataset, the number lands a tremendous amount by any historical standard.
The $260 million figure is notable because it reflects pre-order revenue generated in just the final week of June, well ahead of the game's November launch. Newzoo's data suggests GTA 6 is on track to reach $4.5 billion in sales by launch week, selling approximately 51 million units at its average price.
The report comes amid intense scrutiny of GTA 6's commercial potential. Rockstar has remained relatively quiet since the game's official reveal in May, which showed an explosive conflict on the Korean Peninsula and introduced the game's dual protagonists. The pre-order data gives analysts their first concrete look at consumer demand ahead of what is expected to be the biggest entertainment launch in history.
GTA 6 has been one of the most anticipated games in the industry's history. Rockstar's previous entry, GTA 5, has sold over 200 million copies since its 2013 release, making it one of the best-selling entertainment products of all time. The sequel's pre-order performance suggests it may surpass even those astronomical numbers.
