Fortnite’s next season has a name and a release date. Epic Games officially announced on August 5 that Chapter 7 Season 4 is called Override, with the season arriving on Thursday, August 20, 2026. The announcement came with the tagline “Break the rules. Change the game.” and a glitch-styled logo built from pixelated shapes, matching the gaming-themed look that dataminers had predicted for the season.
The reveal follows weeks of leaks pointing to a “Gaming Legends”-style season focused on crossover characters from other video game franchises. While Epic has not confirmed any specific collaborations, the logo’s pixelated, glitching presentation lines up with earlier in-game teases, including a Pac-Man audio easter egg that players discovered in the game in early August. Reports from VICE note that dataminers have linked Override to collaborations with franchises such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Mega Man, and Tetris, though nothing has been officially confirmed.
An August 15 send-off before Override
Before the new season begins, Epic is hosting the Unstable live event on August 15 to close out the current Chapter 7 Season 3, known as the Runners arc. The event will mark the end of the current season’s storyline, with the season finale leading directly into Override the following week. Leaks of the event’s story experience, reported by VICE, point to promotional posters featuring Sonic the Hedgehog villain Dr. Eggman, adding further weight to the gaming-crossover rumors around the season.
Beyond Sonic, dataminers have repeatedly flagged a Kingdom Hearts collaboration for Override. Multiple data miners have reported that the crossover will add a Gummi Ship as a drivable vehicle in both Battle Royale and Rocket League modes, with the collaboration reportedly launching late in August. The Kingdom Hearts connection surfaced the same week as the official season reveal, adding to the gaming-crossover picture around Override.
Override’s presentation so far is deliberately on-theme. The official announcement arrived alongside an upside-down teaser image that spells out “August 20,” and an in-game news feed glitched out ahead of the reveal, a nod to the season’s name. Joker from Persona 5 has also been flagged by dataminers among the rumored crossovers. Epic has not yet detailed the Battle Pass lineup, gameplay changes, or map updates for Override; those details are expected in the season trailer closer to launch.
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4: Override launches on August 20, 2026, with the Unstable live event scheduled for August 15. The season follows Chapter 7 Season 3’s Runners storyline, which wraps up at the live event.
