Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, with the same presentation arriving on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9 p.m. ET the same evening. The announcement on the Rockstar Newswire sets the Netflix debut for 3 p.m. ET, which puts a six-hour exclusive window on the streaming platform before the footage goes out everywhere else.
The studio’s post on X reads: “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres on @netflix Thursday, August 27 at 3 p.m. ET.” A dedicated Netflix title page for the special is already live, and Rockstar’s own description notes that the YouTube and site uploads follow at 9 p.m. ET. Netflix subscribers get first access; everyone else waits until the evening showing.
Rockstar has not said how long the presentation runs or exactly what it contains, and the “Extended Look” label is doing a lot of work. The two trailers released so far, listed on the official Grand Theft Auto VI site, arrived in December 2023 and May 2025 respectively, and neither was a full gameplay showcase. An extended look in August would be the first significant new footage since Trailer 2, which is why the announcement is drawing attention ahead of the game’s November 19, 2026 release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The Netflix arrangement is a notable shift for Grand Theft Auto marketing, which has historically put every major trailer on YouTube first. Putting the premiere behind a subscription tier, even for only six hours, pushes the platform into the center of the biggest gaming launch cycle of the year and gives Netflix a marquee gaming moment for its subscriber base. Rockstar did not explain the reasoning in the announcement, but the split structure, subscribers at 3 p.m. ET and everyone else at 9 p.m. ET, keeps the reveal inside the same calendar day.
The timing matters as much as the platform. GTA VI is the biggest game on the 2026 calendar, and Rockstar has released only two trailers for it since December 2023, letting the November 19 date and the June pre-order window carry much of the conversation since May 2025. An “extended look” at this stage, roughly three months out, gives the studio one substantial showing ahead of launch. What remains unconfirmed is whether the special is a single continuous segment or a structured presentation with multiple segments, and whether it includes any first-look gameplay beyond the cinematic footage seen so far.
Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI opened on June 25 across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, including the Ultimate Edition tier, according to Rockstar’s pre-order announcement. The company has not announced a PC version, and the confirmed platforms remain the two current-gen consoles. With the November launch roughly three months out, the August 27 special is the last scheduled public look at the game before release, unless Rockstar adds further events.
