Diablo Animated Series Is in Development With Netflix

Blizzard announced a Diablo animated series with Netflix at BlizzCon, but has not named its creative team, story or release window.

Blizzard announced an animated Diablo series in development with Netflix during the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony on September 12, according to the official Blizzard broadcast. The reveal adds a screen project to a franchise whose core releases have been games, but the announcement did not include a release window or a named creative team.

Blizzard’s official BlizzCon guide described Diablo as a focus of the opening ceremony and framed the weekend around the franchise’s 30th anniversary. That is useful context for the timing, not confirmation that the series will adapt a particular game, character or period in Sanctuary.

What is confirmed about the series

The public details are limited to the format, franchise and partner: an animated series connected to Diablo is being developed with Netflix. Blizzard has not named the show, announced a showrunner or voice cast, described its story, or provided an episode count, production schedule or premiere date in the announcement. Those unanswered questions matter because they will determine whether this is a direct adaptation of an existing game story or a new story in the wider setting. For now, either description would go beyond what Blizzard has confirmed.

The announcement is also separate from a game update. Blizzard did not attach a new season, expansion, playable class or feature to the Netflix reveal. Readers following both parts of the franchise can compare it with PixelTempo’s coverage of the Diablo IV Season 14 patch, which dealt with a specific in-game change rather than an adaptation.

That distinction keeps the story in proportion. A series can introduce Diablo to viewers who do not play the games, but there is no announced release date or production detail yet that would let audiences assess its format or likely relationship to the games. The next meaningful update would be something concrete from Blizzard or Netflix about the creative team, premise, production stage or planned release.

BlizzCon’s game sessions remain a separate track

The official schedule placed the series announcement alongside a weekend of Diablo programming, but the listed sessions concern the games and their development. Saturday’s guide included a Diablo developer update and a panel about Diablo IV cinematics; Sunday’s schedule listed a Diablo IV: What’s Next presentation. The schedule does not say that any of those sessions will provide details about the Netflix series.

That leaves two parallel questions for fans. The game presentations may explain what is next for Diablo IV, while the screen project needs its own information about story, production and timing. Treating a game panel as a promised series update would confuse two announcements that Blizzard has not linked in its published schedule.

Blizzard has used the same BlizzCon weekend for other franchise news. PixelTempo has also covered World of Warcraft: Forever and its November 4 launch; that is a game release announcement, not evidence about the Diablo series. Keeping those stories distinct helps readers separate a confirmed launch date from a project that is only described as being in development.

For now, the Netflix partnership is the news. The premise, continuity, cast, animation approach and release timing remain open. We will update this report if Blizzard or Netflix publishes those details through an official channel.
